Question 1

Is Tracksider only for professional photographers with big lenses?

Accepted Answer

Not at all! Tracksider is built for everyone who loves motorsport photography — from spectators and fans using a smartphone or beginner DSLR, to working pros with media passes. We clearly highlight public spectator banks where anyone can get awesome photos without a special pass, as well as media-only zones.

Question 2

How does the Field Notepad Relay work between desktop and mobile?

Accepted Answer

The Field Notepad (tracksider.app/notes) lets you draft shot lists, driver social media tags, and equipment checklists on your computer with full keyboard comfort. When finished, a secure QR code appears. In the Tracksider mobile app, simply tap "Scan QR Code" with your camera — your note decrypts on-device in under a second and is saved to your phone for offline use.

Question 3

Are my Field Notes private and encrypted?

Accepted Answer

Yes, 100%. Notes are encrypted client-side in your web browser using zero-knowledge AES-GCM 256 before leaving your computer. Our cloud relay only ever handles encrypted ciphertext and has no access to your secret key. The cloud relay automatically purges data after 14 days, while your mobile app retains your copy offline forever.

Question 4

How does Tracksider help beginners and hobbyists?

Accepted Answer

If you are visiting a circuit for the first time, Tracksider takes away the guesswork. It shows you the best corners to watch and shoot, easy walking directions, what lenses to pack, and simple camera tips (like how to freeze cars or capture wheel blur) so you get great photos right away.

Question 5

How does Tracksider help working media and pros?

Accepted Answer

Pros use Tracksider to plan their weekend schedule down to the hour. You can check the sun’s exact angle across different corners to catch peak golden hour light, locate specific photo window cutouts in catch fences, monitor live weather, and check safety red zones.

Question 6

Does the app work without cellular reception at remote tracks?

Accepted Answer

Yes, 100%. Many legendary tracks (like Nürburgring in the Eifel or Spa in the Ardennes) have weak or non-existent mobile coverage. You can download full track packs (maps, spot guides, photo tips, and directions) with one tap before your trip and use everything completely offline.

Question 7

Does Tracksider track or store my personal GPS location?

Accepted Answer

No. Your GPS is processed exclusively on your phone to show where you are on the map and calculate sun angles. Your location is never sent to, stored on, or shared with any remote servers.

Question 8

Is Tracksider free to download and use?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Tracksider is free to download for everyone on the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android). Explore circuits, discover photospots, track sun angles, and manage field notes right away.
